Red Bull KTM has to cope with a severe setback on the ninth stage of the Dakar Rally. This year’s adventure is over for two-time Dakar winner Toby Price.
After Matthias Walkner, who lost two hours on stage 2 due to a faulty clutch and is no longer an option for overall victory, Red Bull KTM will have to do without its most promising driver in the crucial phase of the Dakar Rally 2021.
Toby Price, Dakar winner in 2016 and 2019, was already slightly injured after a fall on stage 7, but in another fall after 155 kilometers of the ninth stage, according to reports from the organizer ASO, the Australian was more seriously injured – it is from an injury to the left arm and shoulder talking.
Price was therefore rescued by helicopter and taken to the hospital in Tabuk. There the extent of his injury should be determined by means of x-rays.
But even if the Red Bull KTM star had been able to continue the rally, his fall would have been massive. Because while Dakar leader Nacho Cornejo has already covered over 200 km, the 33-year-old had not yet reached waypoint 157. Price started today’s stage just three minutes after the Chilean.
By the way: Last year’s winners Ricky Brabec (Honda) and Sam Sunderland (Red Bull KTM) passed the scene of the accident and gave Price first aid.
