‘No one knows, you have to come and sweep in the morning and leave’ – Rinku’s sufferings behind the hanging six

Kolkata: Rinku Singh polishes his playing skills on the strength of fighting once morest privations and various obstacles. Rinku says that the strength of those experiences is his asset. After giving Kolkata Knight Riders an incredible victory in the IPL, he opened up regarding the experiences he had to go through in life.

His parents did not like him going to play cricket. Rinku, who knew the cost of hunger and hunger from a young age, was not very good at learning. Rinku’s parents advised him to focus only on cricket, but nothing worked. Rinku was sure that his field was cricket.

Once, with the help of his brother, his father arranged a job for Rinku. Rinku got a job as a sweeper in a coaching center. He might not bear to hold a broom instead of a cricket bat. Even though my father told me to go to the coaching center in the morning and do things like sweeping the floor and no one would know, it was of no use. Rinku’s focus was on cricket itself.

Although he wanted to obey his parents, the big world of cricket beckoned him. Rinku tried to follow his dream. Seeing the biggest insult in his life as a stepping stone to success, Rinku left his job at the coaching center and came down for cricket.

Parents have five children including himself. His father, Khanchand, used to deliver gas cylinders to homes. Rinku says that the meager income from it was not enough to make ends meet, so they had to go for other jobs. Rinku stated that it was so hard to move forward in the initial stages of life.

“I can’t get ahead with an academic education. Cricket was the only thing that kept me going. That was my only option.’

Rinku says that with the money earned through IPL, he was able to change the poverty of his family. Rinku also said that he is enjoying the stardom he is getting now.

‘My father has suffered a lot. I come from a farming family. Every shot I hit out of the court is a dedication to those who sacrificed so much for me. In the past, the club had to buy a ball to play the match. If you ask your father, you won’t get it. In order to participate in a competition in Kanpur, Amma borrowed a thousand rupees from a nearby grocery store.’

‘My father used to deliver LPG cylinders to homes. When my father might not go, we five brothers were in charge. Father has punished us a lot.’

DPS Alagarh organized a tournament called School World Cup. I was adjudged Man of the Tournament. That was the first time dad saw me play. I got a bike as a gift that day. After that, Papa has not beaten me even once’ – Rinku clarified with a smile.

Rinku says that he is indebted to six people for his growth to where he is today. His early coach Masood Amini, Mohammad Seeshan who helped him with cricket bats, Arjun Singh Fakira, Neil Singh, Swapnil Jain and others. Thanks to all of them.

Currently, Rinku has managed to move the family into an apartment in the city. The first thing he did with the money from the IPL was to clear all the liabilities including the loan. Rinku stated that all the problems have been resolved and the family is now moving forward happily.
