“No parent expects to experience this”

On September 30, 2020, Patryk Milner was as usual at school, when he collapsed in the middle of class, around 9:50 a.m. His teacher soon began giving him CPR, with the help of other staff, while he waited for help.

The 7-year-old boy was airlifted to hospital but after 40 minutes of cardiac arrest the brain damage was deemed too severe. He finally died 36 hours later, much to the dismay of his parents and doctors.

natural death

Almost a year and a half later, investigators believe that the little boy died of natural causes, as it was a sudden cardiac dysarrhythmia that had not been diagnosed. Patryk’s devastated parents told the inquest that their son was a “healthy and physically fit child”, who enjoyed sports and had no known underlying illnesses.

“When I dropped him off at school, he seemed fine, nothing in his behavior suggested otherwise. Andrew and I are totally devastated by the unexpected and sudden loss of our son. No parent ever expects to experience that, ”explains the mother.

one last gift

The teacher was not charged with negligence, as he did the best he could when he saw the child’s distress. “I thought he was trying to draw my attention to his sore throat. I asked if he needed help, but he didn’t answer. I approached him and was afraid that he would faint. I got him off the desk, his chair, and the floor. I put my hand on his chest and felt his heart pounding,” the professor recalls.

The child’s organs were donated by his parents at the time of death. His father then said that his son had given three other children “the gift of life”.
