Certain iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro devices are eligible for a free repair if there is no sound in the handset when making or receiving calls, according to Apple.

Free repairs

The devices that could be affected by the sound problem were produced between October 2020 and April 2021. The qualified devices would be repaired by Apple free of charge. Alternatively, the free repair could also be carried out by an authorized Apple service provider.

Specifically, it says in the service program publication on the Apple site:

“Apple has found that a very small percentage of iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro devices may experience audio issues in some cases due to a faulty component in the handset module. Affected devices were manufactured between October 2020 and April 2021.

If your iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro does not play any sound when you make or receive calls, it may be eligible for service. “

mini and Pro Max not qualified

At the same time, Apple announced that the service program did not affect the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max models.

A backup of the iPhone should be carried out before the service. According to Apple, it may sometimes be necessary to repair certain damage before the actual service, if the sound problem cannot otherwise be repaired. In certain cases, this additional repair could result in costs.

Apple also lets you know that the repair may only be offered in the Apple country or region where the device was purchased. If the device was purchased in a member state of the EEA (European Economic Area), the service can be used in all EEA member states.

The standard warranty coverage would not be extended by the service program. Consumer protection laws would remain unaffected. As far as the validity of the service program itself is concerned, it will last two years after the device was first sold in retail outlets.
