Nokia enters the laptop market after smartphones

Nokia, through its partnership with French start-up OFF Global, has unveiled its first portable PC, titled the Nokia Purebook Pro. Equipped with an Alder Lake processor, GB of RAM and a Full HD screen, it is primarily aimed at professionals on the move or teleworking. It will be marketed in two versions of 699 € and 799 €.

When he’s not developing 6G, Nokia is entering the portable PC market. Indeed, the manufacturer took advantage of the MWC 2022 to reveal his Purebook Pro. The laptop will be marketed by the French start-up OFF Global in 22 countries. To seduce his target, he can count on a technical sheet which, if it is not the most remarkable, has the merit of being in line with current mid-range standards.

Thus, the Purebook Pro is equipped with a screen ofa resolution of 1920×1080 pixels measuring 15.6 or 17.3 inches depending on the model. The first weighs 1.7 kg while the second displays 2.5 kg on the scale. Both are 19mm thick. Under the hood, there is a Intel Alder Lake i3 along with 8 GB of DDR4 RAM and a 512 GB SSD.

The Purebook Pro, a very mid-range PC that makes up for it on the price

We had the opportunity to test the Purebook Pro during MWC 2022. In hand, the PC does not really give a high quality impression. This is felt by the choice of its components. If Nokia has opted for the latest generation of Intel processors, it has nevertheless chosen the least powerful model in the range. A decision that can be explained by two factors.

The first is that of mobility. The Purebook Pro is not intended to replace a desktop PC, but rather to accompany professionals on their travels or, failing that, to become a real telecommuting companion. This is how the panel is equipped with an anti-reflective coating anda 2 MP webcamwhich will do the trick for videoconference meetings.

On the accessory side, there is a relatively large trackpad and a fingerprint reader. The PC disappoints on the other hand on the connection, with only 3 USB-C ports and a microSD card reader. For connection, the machine is only compatible with WiFi 5 and Bluetooth 5. A disappointment that is mitigated by the second factor: the price.

The Purebook Pro will be sold at 699 € for its 15.6-inch version and 799 € for the 17.3 inch model. A price despite everything very attractive for its size, but which explains why Nokia had to make some compromises. Note also that it will be possible to replace its components yourself. For now, we do not yet know the official release date.
