Norbert Haug on Red Bull Racing: Draconian penalty / Formula 1

Red Bull Racing’s alleged budget violation has caused waves in Singapore. Norbert Haug calls for draconian penalties if there is a violation.

In Singapore last weekend there was almost only one topic: Did Red Bull Racing ignore the budget limit? There were wild discussions, mutual reproaches, and all of that before the world automotive association FIA announced the results of the investigation.

That should happen this Wednesday. In the event that there have been misconduct, the former Mercedes motorsport boss Norbert Haug demands consequences.

“If you don’t stick to it, you actually don’t stick to anything anymore,” he explained at Sport1. The teams were allowed to spend around 150 million dollars in 2021.

Ferrari team boss Mattia Binotto, for example, calculated in Singapore that four million dollars in additional expenditure on the track can account for half a second.

The sums would have to be “exactly checked”, Haug demanded: “You have to wait until the results are on the table. If it can be proven, it must be punished draconically. It would be a serious violation of the regulations, »said Haug.
