Jakarta, Selular.ID – After confirming that it will launch a competitor TikTok, Reels, Instagram officially rolled out the feature. Now, Reels is present globally in 50 countries.
“Today we announce Instagram Reels, a new way to create and find short and entertaining videos on Instagram,” Instagram wrote in its official blog, Friday (7/8).
Reels itself was introduced as a recording feature as well as a 15-second short video editor. This feature is integrated in the Instagram application, precisely on Camera.
Users can edit videos by adding various music, AR effects, and adjusting the speed of the video they want directly from the camera on Instagram.
Later, the finished video can be shared on Instagram Stories, Feeds or privately via Direct Message. It will disappear after 24 hours if you upload it to Stories, while Instagram Feeds will still display Reels videos.

Similar to TikTok, Reels also has a special page on Explore Instagram that contains content. Users can browse all public Reels content in that tab.
Robby Stein, Instagram’s Product Drector, disagrees that Reels is called TikTok. He said that TikTok indeed became a pioneer of short video applications, but Reels still looked different.
“In my opinion TikTok is more appreciated, because it has popularized the short video format.” said Stein, quoted from Theverge, Friday (7/8).
“But in the end, no two products are exactly alike, neither is our product (Reels),” he added.
