The OM Records label was officially born yesterday. It is a partnership between OM and the BMG record company. A first in Europe, for a club which multiplies the openings towards this milieu of local rap.
As soon as he arrived at OM, club president Jacques-Henri Eyraud had not hesitated to launch IAM couplets. Since then, OM has opened the door wide to these local artists. There are many examples. There are the OM Sessions, which consist in offering a platform to a young artist who must create a song around OM. There is also the arrival at the microphone of Sat L’Artificier (from the Fonky Family) to animate the pre-match or the musical introduction of the compositions to the sound of Akhenaton’s Bad Boys de Marseille.
Gregory Kopp, director of communication and impact manager of OM, evokes this partnership in Provence : “We are above all a football club, that is the priority, but especially in Marseille, OM has another role to play, through its proximity to the Marseillais, and through its influence in the world. Frank McCourt is well aware of this. Marseille is full of energy, wealth, and he wants the club to be used for that, to show the best of this city“.
On his side Jacques-Henri Eyraud also communicated on the subject: “Olympique de Marseille is first and foremost a football club, but the club shines well beyond the pitches, and in particular with Marseille youth in order to support them in all their forms of artistic expression. Marseille has been a cradle of French rap and hip hop since IAM and the links between OM and local artists have been strong for years. The launch of OM Records completes this link and symbolizes the club’s desire to promote worldwide the unique energy that emanates from Marseille and its inhabitants.“.
