Nightmare accident at the Kölliken-Süd motorway service station. On Tuesday, shortly after 8 p.m., truck drivers who had parked their vehicles in the parking lot heard a loud bang. The startled chauffeurs discovered that an Audi had crashed violently into the rear of two semitrailers.
The police and the ambulance were on site quickly. In the massively demolished car wreck they found a person for whom any help came too late.
Victim lived in the Basel area
The Aargau canton police were able to identify the deceased as a 22-year-old Swiss from the Basel area, according to a message. The man had left the A1 in his Audi in the direction of Zurich and crashed into the trailer “at high speed”.
The force of the impact wedged the Audi underneath. Both trailers were badly damaged.
Initial investigations by the Aargau cantonal police indicate that the 22-year-old drove against the truck with suicidal intent. The Zofingen-Kulm public prosecutor’s office is investigating the incident.
The recovery and clearance work lasted until the early hours of the morning. Until then, the police blocked the access to the rest area. (noo)
