One person died in an accident on the E313 near Ranst towards Antwerp, the Antwerp public prosecutor’s office said on Thursday. This is the driver of a van that hit the back of a truck that was immobilized in a traffic jam.
The victim probably noticed the line too late and failed to brake in time. The emergency services on the spot could not do anything to save the driver. Due to this accident, the E313 in the direction of Antwerp has been closed to traffic since 9.45 a.m. To leave the motorway, take exit 19 (Massenhoven) and follow the detour to the Ranst junction.
The Flemish Traffic Center advises not to use this section until further notice. The accident caused long traffic jams and it is preferable to opt for another route via Brussels to go to Antwerp or Ghent from Hasselt. From Maastricht, it is best to go through Eindhoven to get to Antwerp.
