One week of strike by the Cargo Solidarity in Jeollabuk-do…

# Mr. A, who runs a cement-related wholesale business in Deokjin-gu, Jeonju, has a lot of problems recently. As the construction industry is in its peak season, demand for cement is also brisk, but as the cargo coalition went on strike, the quantity to be sent from the factory did not arrive at all. Mr. A explains that it is impossible to even sell because there is no quantity to be sent to the customer.

Person A sighed, “We have been supplied with cement from Danyang, but now there is no stock or shipment at all.

He continued, “I expected the situation to get worse and received some supplies, but as the strike continues for a week, the situation is gradually getting worse.” I hope the government will come forward and solve the problem as soon as possible,” he said.

As the cargo strike that started on the 7th shows signs of prolongation, related industries such as cement and power plants in Jeonbuk are moving forward.

This is because inventory or fuel, which should be brought in immediately, is not being properly stocked, and the existing stock is gradually being used up.

An official from a power plant in Gunsan, Jeollabuk-do, said, “In the case of our power plant, bituminous coal and wood pellets are used as the main fuel, but the way to transport them from Gunsan Port is blocked due to a strike. In this case, the power plant may be shut down,” he said.

In Gunsan, the first arrests were made in connection with the strike.

The Gunsan Police Station arrested two current offenders on the 13th, including a member of the Jeonbuk Headquarters of the Cargo Coalition, on charges of obstructing the operation of cargo by a logistics vehicle.

According to the police, Mr. A and others are being accused of obstructing a freight car being transported at 10:50 a.m. on the same day at the 6th pier of Gunsan Port and throwing eggs.

Civil society groups in the Jeollabuk-do region supported the Cargo Solidarity through a press conference.

29 civic and social groups in the Jeollabuk-do region held a press conference in front of the People’s Strength Jeonbuk Provincial Office on the same day and said, “The current safety fare system has the effect of reducing accidents despite the three-year sunset system and limitations applied to vehicles in only two areas. “The safety fare system sunset system should be abolished, and the safety fare system should be expanded to all car models and items.”

Currently, about 1,000 freight workers in Jeollabuk-do are on strike in the Gunsan Port area.

They are demanding the abolition of the safe fare system sunset system, the expansion of all types and items of the safe fare system, an increase in shipping charges, the abolition of the paper payment system, and the acquisition of basic labor rights.

“We plan to gradually increase the intensity of the strike from this week,” said an official at the Jeonbuk Regional Headquarters of the Public Transport Workers’ Union of the KCTU. Because of this, the scale of the strike is expected to gradually increase.” / Reporter Kim Soo-hyun, ryud2034@
