OstseeMan 2022: German championship title hunt in the Hawaii of the north

The OstseeMan on August 7, 2022 in Glücksburg will be a very special edition. Not only is the popular triathlon event taking place again after two pandemic-related cancellations, the German triathlon elite will also be in Glückburg next summer. As part of the OstseeMan 2022, the German championships over long distances will be organized.

Overall, we are looking for the best female triathletes in Germany over the ultimate triathlon distance (3.8 km swimming, 180 km cycling and 42.2 km running) in 15 age and elite categories. This means that one of the sporting highlights of the season is taking place in the so-called “Hawaii of the North”, where swimming in the crystal-clear Baltic Sea, a cycling and running route on the coast and short distances between the disciplines characterize the event format.

“The DM is also an appreciation for the OstseeMan team”

“I am incredibly proud that we were awarded the contract by the German Triathlon Union to host this championship,” says Reinhard Husen, initiator and race director of the OstseeMan, who adds in the same breath that he sees a great deal of appreciation for his team in this has been by his side for many years. “In our start and finish area directly on the beach promenade, all participants are warmly welcomed and celebrated, just like on the routes themselves”, Husen is convinced, who as a long-time triathlete knows the most diverse venues and formats very well.

Jan Philipp Krawzcyk, DTU Vice President Event and Judging: “The OstseeMan has been a permanent fixture in the triathlon calendar in Germany for almost 20 years and has developed into a great triathlon event with great potential over the years. I am therefore very happy that we will be able to award the DTU German champions over the long-distance triathlon there next year. ”

On August 7, 2022, the participants will start early in the morning across the beach in Glücksburg into the Flensburg Fjord, then experience an extremely varied bike route and finally run their marathon along the promenade and through the villa district of Glücksburg before they are frenetically celebrated in the finish area . The event day ends with the big award ceremony with fireworks.

Premiere in 2002 with 110 participants

The OstseeMan was held for the first time in 2002 with 110 participants and is now one of the top addresses in Germany’s triathlon calendar. Up to 1,500 starters start in Glücksburg at OstseeMan on the long distance and on the middle distance at OstseeMan113 and experience the extraordinary mixture of passionate sport and exciting entertainment.

Securing the future: OstseeMan team now more broadly positioned

In order to lead the OstseeMan into the future beyond 2022, Reinhard Husen has brought reinforcements to his side. Sven Christensen, who was born in Flensburg and who has been designing and marketing the Kieler Woche regattas with his team for more than 20 years, and Mirko Gröschner, who has many years of experience in trail running (Ultraks) as an organizer and also has more than 10 years of sailing at the America’s Cup Husen has been there since August 2021. Together, as part of the overall team, the three want to provide an unforgettable experience not only for the participants in the German championship, but also for all starters at the OstseeMan 2022.
