Over 800,000 Syrians, mainly women and children, are fleeing an offensive led by Russia: U.N.

AMMAN (Reuters) – Over 800,000 Syrians, the vast majority of women and children, have fled their homes since December 1 before a relentless Russian-led Syrian military campaign in northwest Syria, a senior US spokesman said Thursday.

David Swanson told Reuters that the exodus “will keep moving with thousands of people in the coming days as entire cities and towns flee to the security of areas near the Turkish border.”

“Tragically, the number of displaced people – the vast majority of them women and children – has now exceeded 800,000,” said Swanson.
