ATLANTA – Braves outfielder Marcell Ozuna was arrested after an alleged domestic violence incident in Atlanta on Saturday.
According to Fulton County arrest records, Ozuna’s specific charges were aggravated assault by strangulation and battery – family violence. The Braves issued this statement regarding the 30-year-old outfielder:
“We learned of the arrest of Marcell Ozuna in the early afternoon and immediately reported it to the Commissioner’s Office. The Braves fully support Major League Baseball’s policy on domestic violence, which stresses to the utmost that our society cannot and will not tolerate violence. domestic violence in any of its forms. Until the investigation is completed, we will have no further comment and all questions about the issues should be referred to the Commissioner’s Office. “
The MLB and MLBPA have had a joint policy against domestic violence since 2015.
The Braves are currently playing the Mets in New York. But Ozuna returned to Atlanta after breaking two fingers while sliding to third base in Boston on Tuesday night.
Ozuna currently has a five-year contract with the Braves.
