‘Pamela’ could become a hurricane this Tuesday after reaching the coast of Sinaloa

The National Meteorological Service (SMN) reported that on Tuesday afternoon, tropical storm ‘Pamela’ could intensify to a hurricane in the Pacific, and make landfall in category 2 of the Saffir-Simpson scale, off the coast of Sinaloa.

At 7:00 p.m., Central Mexico time, tropical storm Pamela was located 440 kilometers southwest of Playa Pérula, Jalisco, and 660 km south-southwest of Mazatlán, Sinaloa, with maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour and gusts of 140 km / h and displacement towards the northwest at 11 kilometers per hour ”.

The Meteorological Office reported that tomorrow, ‘Pamela’ will be located south of the coast of Baja California Sur, approaching SinaloaTherefore, its wide circulation will cause rainfall in much of the country, but heavy rains are expected in Baja California Sur and Sinaloa.

It will also cause very heavy rains in Durango, Jalisco and Nayarit; and heavy rainfall in Chihuahua, Coahuila, Colima and Sonora, as well as gusts of wind from 80 to 100 km / h and waves of 3 to 5 m on the coasts of Baja California Sur, Nayarit and Sinaloa, and from 60 to 70 km / h with waves of 3 to 5 m on the coast of Jalisco and the Gulf of California.

Likewise, showers are estimated in Chiapas, Guerrero, Michoacán, Nuevo León, Oaxaca, Quintana Roo, San Luis Potosí, Tamaulipas, Veracruz and Zacatecas, and isolated rains in Aguascalientes, Campeche, State of Mexico, Guanajuato, Hidalgo, Morelos, Puebla, Querétaro, Tabasco and Yucatán.

Similarly, The SMN indicated that during this night, a new cold front is expected to enter the north of Baja California, will cause gusts of wind of 70 to 80 km / h.

The new cold front will spread over the northwest of the country, causing gusts of wind of 60 to 70 km / h and dust storms in Durango, Coahuila, Nuevo León and Tamaulipas, and gusts of 50 to 60 km / h in Zacatecas. In addition, a new tropical wave will approach the southeast of the national territory, increasing the probability of rain in the region.

During the morning of Tuesday, a drop in temperature is expected in mountainous areas of the northwest and north of the country, with minimum temperatures of 0 to 5 degrees Celsius and possible frosts in mountainous areas of Baja California, Chihuahua, Durango, State of Mexico, Hidalgo, Puebla and Tlaxcala. In the afternoon, maximum temperatures of 35 to 40 degrees Celsius are forecast in Campeche, Coahuila, Nuevo León, Quintana Roo, Tabasco, Tamaulipas and Yucatán.

Rainfall can cause landslides, increase in the levels of rivers and streams, and overflows and floods in low-lying areas, which is why the population is urged to heed the notices of the SMN and to follow the indications of the state, municipal and Civil Protection authorities ”, indicated the National Water Commission (Conagua).

Conagua highlighted that the National Meteorological Service (SMN), in coordination with the Miami National Hurricane Center, establishes a surveillance zone for hurricane effects from Bahía Tempehuaya to Escuinapa, Sinaloa; and a surveillance zone for tropical storm effects from Bahía Tempehuaya to Altata, Sinaloa, as well as from Escuinapa, Sinaloa, to San Blas, Nayarit, and from Los Barriles to Los Cabos, in Baja California Sur, including the Marías Islands.
