Pedro Castillo attacks the Prosecutor’s Office and Congress in a message to the Nation and asks the OAS to activate the Inter-American Democratic Charter


President peter castle gave this Wednesday a message to the Nation where he reiterated his criticism of the Public Prosecutor’s Office for filing a constitutional complaint against him in Congress. In this sense, he assured that this accusation does not have any corroboration and reveals the concertation of a plot towards his management.

“To the amazing speed of the complaint against me, is added the open exhortation of the Attorney General to Congress, telling them in her message that she has already done her job and now it’s up to Parliament to do its thing, putting in evidences the subtle agreement for the plot,” said the president.

“New forms of psychological torture are being instrumentalized with preliminary arrests and preventive prisons to obtain accusations against me and my government. In this context, we call on human rights organizations to intercede for detainees whose right to the presumption of innocence is not respected,” said the president.

The head of state asserted that his mandate will end in 2026 and reaffirmed that he is not corrupt, despite all the investigations against him carried out by the Prosecutor’s Office for allegedly leading a criminal organization.

Request OAS intervention

Pedro Castillo also reiterated in his message to the nation his request to resume dialogue with all political forces, but through a request to the Organization of American States to activate the Inter-American Democratic Charter.

“My government has requested the activation of the Inter-American Democratic Charter to start a consultation process with all political forces, State powers and Social Forces,” he asserted. However, Castillo attacked the “hitting congressmen”, who, he denounced, “repeat the script of slanders that they extract from alleged effective collaborators who will never prove the facts they narrate.”

OAS will see Castillo’s request

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro, requested to convene a special session of the Permanent Council to analyze the request of the Peruvian Government to apply articles 17 and 18 of the Democratic Charter Interamerican.

Through a letter addressed to the President of the OAS Permanent Council, Jan Marten Willem Schalkwijk; Luis Almagro reported that the General Secretariat received on October 12 an attached note from President Pedro Castillo and Foreign Minister César Landa requesting “the application of Articles 17 and 18 of the Inter-American Democratic Charter.
