The initiative is promoted by conservative legislator Patricia Chirinos, from Avanza País.
A group of Peruvian legislators presented this Thursday in Congress a request for vacancy against President Pedro Castillo that could imply your dismissal, for an alleged ‘moral incapacity’ to exercise the position, reported the local newspaper The Republic.
“The undersigned congressmen of the Republic propose the following motion on the agenda by which we formulate a request for the vacancy of Mr. José Pedro Castillo Terrones in the position of President of the Republic for the cause of permanent moral incapacity“says the text promoted by conservative congresswoman Patricia Chirinos, from Avanza País.
The initiative has the support of 28 members of the right-wing groups Renovación Popular and Fuerza Popular, a party led by Keiko Fujimori, daughter of the imprisoned ex-president Alberto Fujimori (1990-2000) and who was defeated by Castillo in the ballot last June. .
The signatories of the vacancy request argue the alleged “moral incapacity” of the president based on an investigation that is underway on the case known as Los Dinámicos del Centro, of course money laundering, in addition to the appointments of officials who were questioned by the opposition for its alleged links with leftist terrorist organizations such as the Shining Path, and which, due to pressure from the Executive Branch, ended in dismissals.
“Moral incapacity is the lack of essential moral qualities for the exercise of the position, It has nothing to do with government and state affairs, which are not secret but public affairs, “the document indicates and adds that the president he seeks “personal benefit or that of friends due to the position he occupies.”
Furthermore, they argue that its relations with “undemocratic governments like Venezuela’s” since they “weaken the democracy” of the country. They also claim that the government and its messages generate “economic instability”, and criticize its “refusal to render accounts to the country and mistreatment of the media.”
And now that
For the vacancy request to advance, the vote in favor of 52 congressmen is required to admit it to debate in the plenary session, and then 87 votes to approve it and make his departure effective, something that his predecessor Martín Vizcarra suffered (2018-2020 ) despite having been stripped of the position with more than 60% popularity.
The Congress is unicameral and is made up of 130 representatives in total. In the previous one, blocs allied and even opposed to the ruling Peru Libre have spoken out against an attempt to unseat the chief executive, in order to regain political stability in the country.
After the formal presentation of the motion in Parliament, President Pedro Castillo led an official act in which he referred to the issue and was confident of its continuity: “I am not worried about political noises, because the people have chosen me, the mafia or the corrupt have not chosen me. That is why I owe myself to the people, I am calm. as the town must also be calm. The people deserve respect, “he said, as reported TVPE.
On Tuesday, when the intention of this opposition group, Castillo exhorted to the congressmen who promote a vacancy motion against him to do so “before the people” and not within “four walls”, in reference to the legislative precinct.
Opposition pressures against the left-wing president since he assumed power a little more than 100 days ago are not only constant but are deepening, despite the fact that he has already modified all the members of his cabinet questioned.
