Philippe, 55, crashed into a TEC bus with the van of one of his friends who did not know he had borrowed it

The driver of the van is Philippe, a 55-year-old man who, according to our information, lives in the region

The utility vehicle hit a stationary bus on Friday around 1:00 p.m. rue de Tilff, in Liège. On the spot, the emergency services tried to resuscitate the driver of the van, but he died.

The TEC bus was loading passengers at the time of impact. The bus driver was slightly injured and is suffering from neck pain.

According to the first findings of the automotive expert, the driver of the van was not attached at the time of the accident. No signs of braking were observed. “The impact is heavy, which suggests a fairly high speed of the vehicle, which was in poor general condition,” explained Samuel Levatino, deputy public prosecutor at the Liège police prosecutor’s office, to the Belga agency.

The deceased man was in his fifties and was already known for driving. According to the prosecution, the vehicle belonged to another person. The latter was aware that her vehicle was in default of technical control, that it was not registered and could not drive. The owner was, however, not informed that his van had been used by a friend who had his spare keys. The victim had affixed the plate of another car.

Rue de Tilff remained closed to traffic between Place Andrea Jadoule and Rue de Clerembault until the expert made the required findings. Diversions have been put in place.

According to the Liège prosecutor’s office, a call for witnesses should be launched in the coming hours.
