A search of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) is underway in L’Ancienne-Lorette this afternoon.
Federal police confirm that officers have been taking part in an intervention in the municipality near Quebec since this morning.
According to our information, the operation is taking place in the area of rue Saint-Cyrille, a residential area located near the town hall.
The RCMP could not confirm this information or give us any details on the nature of the intervention or its geographical location, limiting themselves to saying that it was a “search”.
“At the level of investigations, we are very limited in the information that we can give, because we do not want to compromise [le travail des officiers]», Explained Corporal Mélanie Cappiello-Stébenne.
The Quebec Fire Protection Service (SPCIQ) received a request for assistance in this matter at 12:18 p.m. at 1599 rue Saint-Cyrille, a two-unit residential building.
“We have around ten firefighters who are present there, including the team specializing in hazardous materials,” said SPCIQ spokesperson Alexandre Lajoie.
