Physical, critical and mishap glitches: the tide has turned for Batshuayi in Besiktas

During his last twelve outings, the Devil has scored only once, from the penalty spot. If his club isn’t spinning, he’s the perfect scapegoat.

Three goals in his four inaugural league appearances: Michy Batshuayi’s first weeks at Besiktas had been more than encouraging. “How many goals is he going to score? I don’t know. He’s here to score. Maybe ten, maybe thirty?”, had even declared Sergen Yalcin, his trainer, in September.

The Turkish coach had made the Devil one of his priority targets to replace the prolific Vincent Aboubakar, who left for Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia. The mission was obviously not easy. Even less when we know that the Cameroonian had scored seventeen goals and delivered five assists on behalf of the Istanbul club last year. And, while Batshuayi seemed to be off to a good start, the trend was entirely reversed within two and a half months. He has only shaken the net once (from a penalty against Nacer Chadli’s Basaksehir) in his last twelve meetings. He is the object of criticism in Turkey for his status as a star player.
