Nancy, a resident of Verviers, can’t take pigeons anymore. Their droppings and the noise they make “rot” his life day and night. She contacted the local authorities, but nothing helped, the pigeons are still there.
When you open the window that overlooks the Courna de Nancy, there’s no need to call the scientific police to identify the culprits. During the day, they are few and quiet. Evening and morning are very different. “We can’t sleep anymore. We hear them scratching in the bricks, on the roof. I have my room which overlooks the roof. It sometimes feels like there are rats”.
The internet is full of tips and tricks against pigeons, Nancy has tried them all. “Aluminium because it seems that it scares them away, but no way. Bleach. I put vinegar. I sprinkled the walls. I was told white linen… They give a damn”regrets Nancy.
Nancy also called the municipal authorities. Faced with a problem that they consider to be very local, they refuse to bring out the heavy artillery. “Contraceptive means are part of the means that we could implement, but we do not encounter such a problem on the territory of Verviers that a general policy would be necessary”, considers Jean-François Chefneux, the alderman of public cleanliness of the City of Verviers.
A few meters from Nancy’s house, an old lady puts seeds on her balcony when it is forbidden. The neighbors downstairs are tasting. “We don’t know how to get in, customers complain. We have to clean every day. It’s not pleasant at all”said a neighbor.
“I really don’t want to move for pigeons, but it’s no longer possible, it really gets on my nerves”adds Nancy.
As a last resort, Nancy contacted an extermination company. She received an estimate of 4,700 euros.
