PM Modi | Modi to meet Macro, Scholes and Frederickson; To Europe in May

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to return to Europe to meet with French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen. The Prime Minister will leave on May 2 for a three-day visit to Europe. This is the Prime Minister’s first foreign visit this year. The Prime Minister’s visit comes at a time when European countries are opposed to India’s stance on Russia’s occupation of Ukraine. The Prime Minister will also address the India-Nordic Summit in Denmark.

According to the Hindustan Times, Modi and Macro are likely to discuss the construction of air-independent propulsion submarines and aircraft engines in India with the help of France, given that France is one of India’s closest allies and the interest of the ruling Macro government in the Atma Nirbhar Bharat project.

Earlier, the two countries had said that India and France, which maintain close ties, would work together in a number of areas, including trade, defense, people’s relations and emerging technologies. AUKUS also has the potential to bring France closer to India. It is an agreement signed by Australia, the United States and the United Kingdom to address security concerns in the Indo – Pacific region. France has assisted India in mapping the bottom of the Indian Ocean and has thus become a major power in the region.

Modi will meet German Chancellor Olaf Scholes in Berlin. The two will co-chair the India-Germany Government level talks. This is Modi’s first meeting with Scholes. Both leaders are attending a commercial event. The Prime Minister will also interact with the Indian community in Germany.

Modi will arrive in Copenhagen, Denmark from Germany to meet with Prime Minister Met Fredericks. He will also hold talks with Danish Queen Margaret. The Danish Prime Minister, who visited India in October 2021, had said that he considers India as his closest partner. During his visit, Frederickson sought to establish strong trade, diplomatic and cultural ties with India.

The Prime Minister, who is attending the India-Nordic Summit, will also interact with the India-Denmark Business Forum and the Indian community there.

The Prime Minister will also hold talks with the Prime Minister of Iceland Catherine Jacobsdottir, the Prime Minister of Norway Jonas Gar Store, the Prime Minister of Sweden Magdalena Anderson and the Prime Minister of Finland Sanna Marin at the India – Nordic Summit. Topics at the Nordic Summit include post – Kovil Economic Development, Climate Change, Innovation and Technology, and Green Energy. This is the second summit after 2018.
