On February 27, 1996, a brand new video game appeared in Japan on the Game Boy (portable console from the 1980s and 1990s) from Nitendo. Its name: Pokémon, diminutive of “Pocket Monster”, “pocket monster”, in French. We then got to know the first generation Pokémon, 151 species in total. Among them, the famous Pikachu, Meowth or Eevee.

The aim of the game? Catch the greatest number of Pokémon and become the best trainer. To become one, you have to take part in fights! These will evolve your Pokémon. The more they evolve, the more powerful they are, and the more invincible you are!

25 years later, Pokémon is one of the best-selling video game brands in the world! Today, there are 898 species of these “monsters”, spread over eight generations!
