The suspicious package reported late Saturday followingnoon on Avenue des Arts in Brussels was not trapped, said shortly before 6:00 p.m. the spokeswoman for the Brussels-Ixelles police Ilse Van de keere. It was a false alarm.

A security perimeter had been deployed and the intervention of a dog specialized in explosives had been required on site.

Traffic was disrupted on the small belt on the sidelines of the intervention.

At the request of the specialized service which intervened, the Arts-Loi tunnel was closed in both directions until 5.35 p.m. Drivers coming from the Gare du Midi had to take a detour via rue Belliard. Those coming from Place Madou were redirected to Rue de la Loi and Rue Ducale.

As a security measure, the police asked the approximately 220 people who were demonstrating for peace in Ukraine, boulevard du Régent, in front of the Permanent Representation of Russia to the European Union, to disperse.
