London: England white ball captain Morgan is reportedly preparing to announce his retirement. Indications are that Morgan’s decision was due to poor form and fitness issues.

Morgan is the captain who led England to their first ODI title. But Morgan was out for zero in the series against the Netherlands. Morgan was later ruled out of the third ODI due to injury.

Jose Butler is likely to be the captain

Jose Buttler is likely to take over as captain if Morgan retires. Butler has been the team’s vice-captain since 2015. Buttler has led England 13 times. Moin Ali is also among those being considered for the captaincy. In 2015, Morgan took over the captaincy from Alistair Cook.

Morgan has scored just two half-centuries in his last 28 appearances in T20I and ODIs. But with the Twenty20 World Cup and the ODI World Cup looming, the question is whether Morgan will be ready to retire.
