Pope Francis regrets that cats and dogs replace children

During the general audience on January 5, the Sovereign Pontiff regretted that couples have fewer and fewer children and prefer to welcome pets. The Pope also invited the institutions to simplify the adoption procedures.

“Today, couples don’t want to have children, or one at most. On the other hand, they have two dogs, two cats. And yes it makes you laugh, but it’s the truth : dogs and cats take the place of children. ”

To give strength to his speech on “Demographic winter”, Pope Francis used a singular image. During the general audience on January 5, report The print, the Sovereign Pontiff in a way reproached modern couples for not fully investing in the creation of a family, preferring to adopt pets.

“This denial of motherhood and fatherhood diminishes us, takes us away from humanity. So civilization ages and the homeland suffers ”, François continued, encouraging couples “To take the risk” to have a child.

Adoption, a dream of love

As the Turin daily explains, the Pope did not limit himself to urging the population to fight the fall in the birth rate, but he also appealed to political forces. Indeed, François invited institutions to “To simplify the adoption procedures, so that the dream of all those little ones who need a family and those spouses who want to give love come true”. A choice – that of adoption – which, in the eyes of the Holy Father, is “One of the highest forms of love and fatherhood and motherhood”.

This advocacy for easier adoption appeals to The print, which underlines, in conclusion, that “thousands of families are grappling with bureaucratic ordeals resulting in suffering and costs that cause many aspiring parents to forgo adoption. It is the Pope who gave voice to this suffering ”.
