Porcelanosa Grupo announces that, to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the opening of its establishment in New York, it will carry out an ambitious expansion of what is described by the company as its “flagship store”. In fact, Porcelanosa New York has become an architectural, urban and commercial icon in Manhattan. A world reference for architecture and interior design.
The prestigious CetraRuddy studio will be in charge of renovating the facilities to connect the old Commodore Criterion with the neighboring building.
According to sources from the Porcelanosa Grupo, the project will have new exhibition areas, offices, ceramic laboratories, as well as a space for events and a cafeteria. In total, “an area of 1,900 meters in which the visitor will be immersed in a unique experience.”
Porcelanosa Grupo has a history of three decades of business in the United States, and has 29 stores throughout the country, as well as a network of more than 500 authorized distributors.
The opening of Porcelanosa New York took place on September 9, 2015. More than 700 guests from 80 different countries witnessed a historic moment for the multinational from Vila-real. The flagship of the firm was opened to the public after a thorough and respectful restoration of the historic Commodore Criterion building.
The renowned studio of Norman Foster, Pritzker Prize winner in 1999 and Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts in 2009, was in charge of adapting this architectural icon of Manhattan built at the beginning of the 20th century to the needs of the company. The maxim of the project was to take care of the exterior rehabilitation and the original elements of the facade.
The opening event of this emblematic showroom took place in a symbolic setting and opened a new stage for the multinational. Right in front of the new Porcelanosa building, in Madison Square Park, with views of the Flatiron Building and the imposing Empire State Building on the skyline, a gala dinner with live music was held. The event was attended by a large representation of the most outstanding architecture and interior design studios from around the world and the closest collaborators and friends of the firm at an international level.
The celebration was attended by numerous well-known faces such as the famous actress Sarah Jessica Parker, the actor Richard Gere, who acted as godfather, the image of the firm for more than 30 years Isabel Preysler, the designer Carolina Herrera, the bullfighter Cayetano Rivera and the top model Nieves Álvarez and Irina Shayk. Along with them, big Hollywood stars wrapped up Porcelanosa Grupo in its great premiere in the Big Apple.
New York is a forest of glazed skyscrapers and tall windows, but there are also other buildings that have marked the evolution of the city over the last few years with a more avant-garde and cosmopolitan architecture designed with the Porcelanosa Grupo collections. Thus, the ceramics of the Castellón firm can be admired on the facade of 321 White Ave, a luxurious 19-story residential complex with 130 apartments located in the Brooklyn district; the Brooklyn The Nevins Residential with 21 floors and 73 luxury apartments; or 168 East 100TH Street, a 16-apartment residential complex whose ventilated façade has been used porcelain tiles from Urbatek.
