Porsche abandons F1 Hyundai and Ford are rumored to participate in F1 from 2027[F1-Gate.com]

Porsche seems to have lost interest in F1. Auto, Motor und Sport reports that Porsche has decided he will not race in Formula 1 after his Red Bull contract failed. However, other new engine suppliers appear to be waiting.

For a long time, it seemed like Red Bull and Porsche were going to form a partnership. After Red Bull’s engine supplier Honda withdrew at the end of last year, the team was looking for a new partner.

The plan at the time was for Red Bull to develop its own engine under the name Red Bull Powertrains for the time being, with Porsche playing a major role in engine development from 2026. With the new engine regulations coming into force in 2026, it would have been the logical starting point for Porsche’s entry into F1.

But that deal broke down earlier this month after the parties couldn’t agree on how much control Porsche would get.

Porsche wanted not only to become an engine supplier, but also to own 50% of Red Bull Racing’s shares. It turned out to be too much to ask for. Porsche said at the time that it would continue to consider other ways to gain access to F1.

Now even that idea seems to have been removed from the table. Auto Motor und Sport claims Porsche will not apply for 2026 because it has lost “F1 drive” after his deal failed.

Other teams have already signed contracts with Ferrari, Renault, Mercedes and Red Bull Powertrains. Audi, which has announced its participation in F1 from 2026, will not only supply engines to the Sauber F1 team, whose contract with Alfa Romeo will be terminated, but will also acquire 75% of the shares and is reported to be a works team.

But there are other candidates as well. Honda is often mentioned by Red Bull’s F1 team principal Christian Horner.

But Auto Motor und Sport say Hyundai (formerly Hyundai) and Ford are also considering joining F1. In that case, they will only participate as an engine supplier from 2027.

The deadline for applications to participate in F1 from 2026 is October 15th this year, but the reference to 2026 is just the first year of the new F1 engine regulations, it does not mean that it cannot enter after that.

Hyundai, which withdrew from the Japanese market in 2010, will re-enter the Japanese market as Hyundai in 2022. Hyundai used to be the romanized reading of HYUNDAI, which is written in the alphabet, but it was changed to Hyundai, which is closer to the original pronunciation.
