Port and Merlin Properties want to create 4,000 Nissan jobs

The Port of Barcelona and Merlin Properties have presented a project to create 4,000 jobs with the development of logistics and industrial buildings in the port service, as well as a Hyperescale Data Center on Nissan’s land in the Zona Franca. The project would involve an investment of 810 million euros.

The reindustrialization table formed between governments, the company and the unions is looking for alternatives while waiting for a final response to the counter-offer sent this week to the Chinese manufacturer Great Wall Motor, the preferred candidate to replace the Japanese car in late December.

The commission, which met on Wednesday, agreed to work with the other two priority investors, the decarbonization hub formed by a conglomerate of companies led by QEV and the motorcycle manufacturer Silence. In addition, it is studying all the options, including the requests to give a logistical use to the lands of the Free Trade Zone that companies such as the food cooperative Consum, the real estate company Merlín Properties, the logistics space manager Goodman have requested.

The Australian real estate company said on Friday that it intended to invest 550 million and create 3,200 jobs in a project to convert Zona Franca land with logistics and industrial activity.
