Premier League: even decimated, Liverpool remains formidable

(ats) The defending champion joins Tottenham in the lead with 20 points. Chelsea and Leicester follow two lengths behind.

Liverpool opened the scoring thanks to an autogoal from Evans (21st). The 2-0 fell in the 41st on a header from Diogo Jota well served by Robertson. The Portuguese became the first player in club history to score in his first four league appearances at Anfield Road. The score should have been clearer, Firmino notably touching the post twice after the break before finally finding the net (86th).

Deprived of three quarters of its usual defense (Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk, Gomez), two holders in the middle (Henderson, Thiago Alcantara) and Salah (in quarantine), Liverpool also had to give up the services of Xherdan Shaqiri, for a problem of “fitness” according to the English media. In addition, Naby Keita came out with an injury early in the second half. However, this did not prevent Jürgen Klopp’s armada from continuing with a 64th consecutive game without a defeat in the Premier League at home, a new club record.

Moreover, Granit Xhaka and Arsenal are not taking off. The Gunners brought back a very lucky 0-0 draw from Leeds. Marcelo Bielsa’s men thus touched the amounts on three occasions in the final phase of the meeting!
