The 23rd stop of the regular season on the 2022 NASCAR calendar is Michigan International Speedway. It is the fourth last race before the playoffs with 16 drivers. 14 pilots have so far qualified early for the fight for the championship.

Michigan International Speedway has been a staple of NASCAR’s two-race calendar since the 1969 season. In 1973, however, there was only one event. The 105th edition on the two-mile Superspeedway will follow this weekend. In the 2020 season, the event was held as a double header on Saturday and Sunday. Since the 2021 season there will only be one championship race.

It’s the fastest NASCAR oval averaging over 200 mph. The cars reach a speed of almost 350 km/h on the straight before turn one. The superspeedway is located near Brooklyn on more than 1,400 hectares in the ‘Irish Hills’ in south-east Michigan.

The curves of the D oval are exaggerated by 18 degrees. The banking on the start/finish straight is twelve degrees and the back straight is only five degrees banked. The race distance has been extended back to 400 miles and is now divided into three stages over 45, 75 and a final 80 laps.

Victory Lane: The Last Polesetters, Winners & Record Winners at Michigan International Speedway

With five wins, Kevin Harvick is the most successful active driver on the Superspeedway. The Stewart-Haas driver achieved four victories in the last six races alone, including the 2020 doubleheader. Last year, Ryan Blaney celebrated for the first time in Brooklyn’s Victory Lane.

Starter list with driver change for the 23rd race of the season in Brooklyn

Only 37 drivers were entered by the teams for the 23rd race of the season at Michigan International Speedway. This means that for the 22nd time in a row this year there is not a complete starting field with 40 drivers. An open team is at the start.

There were a total of four driver changes after the last race on the Indianapolis road course. JJ Yeley takes over #15 at Rick Ware Racing for Joey Hand. Noah Gragson will drive the #16 for AJ Allmendinger at Kaulig Racing this weekend.

With Kurt Busch, who celebrated his 44th birthday on Wednesday, still not eligible to start after his accident in Pocono qualifying, he will be replaced by Ty Gibbs for the third time. So far, the 19-year-old has finished both races in 16th and 17th place.

The two cars from Team Hezeberg will not be there in Brooklyn. Richard Childress Racing uses a third Chevrolet for this. Austin Hill is making his Cup debut in the Open car with the #33. The 28-year-old has competed in 121 truck races since 2014 and 35 Xfinity races since 2019. Hill is driving full-time this season and is sixth overall in the Xfinity series after two wins.
