The dollar starts the session with losses against the Mexican peso. The US currency weakened after the Federal Reserve (Fed) ruled out keeping increases of more than 50 basis points on the negotiating table in the next two monetary policy meetings.
On the other hand, the Mexican currency gained ground against the dollar for the fourth day in a row to trade at its strongest level in 16 months. As of 11:44 a.m. ET, the Mexican peso has gained 0.9%, its strongest level since January 2021, while The dollar index, or DXY, which tracks the currency’s performance against a basket of six major currencies, has dipped slightly to 101.85.
In the last five days, the peso has gained 1.2%, registering its fourth week of gains in a row and the best in a month. Instead, the DXY has lost 1.4%, becoming its biggest weekly decline in the last four months.
