Prosecutor’s Office opened an investigation against civilians who attacked Mapuche community members

The La Araucanía Prosecutor’s Office decided to open an investigation ex officio against those who were part of the acts of violence that occurred over the weekend in the communes of Curacautín and Victoria.

The investigation was opened for the crimes of public disorder, injury to third parties, vehicle fire, in addition to the violation of article 318 of the Penal Code for health crimes and violating the curfew that prevails in the country.

The investigation will be carried out based on the videos published on social networks and the media and showing the unreported illicit events that occurred in the municipalities of Curacautín and Victoria.

On Saturday night, groups of civilians forcibly evicted the municipalities of Curacautín and Victoria, which were being held by communards demanding the “freedom of Mapuche political prisoners”.
