The Fair Trade Investigation Department of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office (Deputy Prosecutor Lee Jeong-seop), which is investigating the Samsung Group’s allegation of driving a food service company, summoned Choi Ji-seong, former head of the Future Strategy Office (non-external office) as the accused, on the 27th.
Prosecutors are said to be confirming the circumstances in which they unjustly supported Welstory by driving all of the in-house meals from 2013 to 8 years from 2013 against Choi, who led the non-department office from 2012 to 2017.
In June of last year, the Fair Trade Commission imposed a fine of about 234.9 billion won, saying that four companies, including Samsung Electronics, Samsung Display, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, and Samsung SDI, provided unfair support to Samsung Welstory by driving the supply of meals from affiliates through private contracts. He filed a complaint with the prosecution against Choi and Samsung Electronics for violating the Fair Trade Act.
In addition to driving the quantity of goods under the leadership of all rooms, the contract includes provisions such as ‘guarantee of food material cost margin, 15% additional payment of labor costs as commission fee, and automatic reflection of price and wage increase’ in the contract to support Welstory in obtaining high profits. This was the result of the FTC investigation.
The Fair Trade Commission also pointed out that Welstory, which made a huge net profit in this way, distributed most of its profits to Samsung C&T, the largest shareholder of the head family.
It is doubtful that Welstory played the role of ‘money’ for the head family.
Prosecutors took over the case and raided the Samsung Electronics headquarters in Suwon-si, Gyeonggi-do and Samsung Welstory headquarters in Seongnam-si in March, and summoned Kim Myung-soo, President of Samsung C&T, and Choi Yun-ho, CEO of Samsung SDI, to confirm the decision-making process at the time.
There are observations that the investigation has entered the final stage as the prosecution summoned the former chief of staff, Choi, who was pointed out as a senior in the decision-making line.
