The Spanish couple hosted a luncheon to coincide with the visit of the Emir of Qatar and his wife. The Qatari couple also attended an official gala dinner hosted by King Philip and Queen Leticia.
Sheikh Tamim was presented by Queen Isabella with the highest honor bestowed on heads of state and other dignitaries by King Philip. The Royal Order of Isabella was presented to Sheikh Jawahar, Queen of Leticia.
In his pre-dinner speech, Sheikh Tamim expressed his interest in supporting and strengthening relations between the two countries. He said this year would mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Qatar and Spain.

Qatar will invest 4.7 billion euros ($ 4.9 billion) in Spain, he said, without specifying a time limit on the benefits to the Spanish economy. As of December 2019, Qatar had a direct investment of 2.7 billion euros in Spain, according to Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez. He added that the sovereign funds of the Gulf country have invested in companies such as Iberdrola, Santander and Prisa.
