QB Caylin Newton, Cam’s brother, moves to Auburn

AUBURN, Ala. (AP) – Former Howard quarterback Caylin Newton, the younger brother of former Carolina Panthers starter Cam, says he will move to Auburn.

Newton announced his decision on Twitter on Friday, following in his brother’s footsteps. Cam Newton won the Heisman Trophy in 2010 and led Auburn to the national championship.

The 6-foot, 195-pound Caylin Newton is immediately eligible as a graduate transfer. After four games, he entered the NCAA transfer portal in October. He will continue with the Tigers, who have already reached their scholarship limit of 85 players.

Newton was the offensive player at the 2018 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference of the year after passing 2,629 yards and running 504 yards.

As a freshman, he was the newcomer to the league of the year.

Auburn returns with quarterback Bo Nix but has little experience.
