Queen Mathilde cancels her visit to Mons at the last minute

The visit was scheduled this Thursday at around 10 a.m. But shortly after 8 am, the announcement of its cancellation was made. At the last minute, Queen Mathilde was forced to give up her visit to Mons to discover the Specialized Reception Center Le Toboggan, an institution which welcomes young girls in difficulty placed by the youth support services, as well as young adolescent mothers and in difficulty.

The Queen should have spoken there with the specialized educators and the persons in charge of the center, as well as with the teenage girls who reside there. Especially since the health crisis and confinement have had a significant impact on the lives of these young people and on the functioning of reception structures. Unfortunately, this royal visit is finally postponed to a later date.

Not because of the winter precipitation expected this Thursday nor because of the incident this Wednesday evening with the royal convoy. The reason given by those responsible for communication at the Royal Palace is “a potential case of Covid from an employee of the Queen” , explains the Royal Palace. “As a precaution, it was considered preferable to postpone it to a later date yet to be defined.”
