Rain forces the closure of outdoor centers

The rain has practically removed the white carpet that covered the Saguenay, forcing the closure of outdoor centers, to the great misfortune of winter sports enthusiasts who had already begun their winter season.

At the Norwegian, a cross-country ski center located in the borough of Jonquière, in Saguenay, we hope that the showers will not do too much damage.

“We have to close because if people came to ski, it would become impossible to rework. It could change to snow tonight,” explained Norwegian general manager Geoffrey Isaac.

No date has yet been set for the reopening of the Norwegian, who hopes to regain his clientele as soon as possible.

It’s the same picture at Rivière-du-Moulin Park, where even walkers have to turn around. “The objective of the closure is to preserve the tracks for the days to come, depending on the weather. Tonight it should be colder. So, if people walk, it will make holes and freeze,” explained Frédéric Munger, general manager of Rivière-du-Moulin.

For the moment, no machinery ventures into the tracks. They want a snowfall to restore balance.

On the Monts-Valin, the rain also damaged the landscape in the morning, before turning to snow later for certain sectors. “Some tracks have been worked on, but as long as no one passes, it’s okay. It is especially near the lifts that it is bald, ”confirmed Stéphane Leblond, marketing director at Valinouët. The ski center was planning to open on Saturday, but with all the rain, it will make a decision on Thursday.

As for the snowmobile trails of the Caribou-conscripts club, enthusiasts will have to wait. “It is certain that with the precipitation that we had, the snow is melting,” explained Julien Tremblay, director of the Caribou-conscript club.

Image sports enthusiasts can only hope for snow in the coming days.
