Red Bull F1 Leaders Explain DRS Trouble “Understanding Verstappen’s Frustration” / Spanish Grand Prix Final[F1-Gate .com]

Helmut Marko, Red Bull F1 Motorsport Advisor, explains Max Verstappen’s DRS problems during qualifying and racing at the Spanish Grand Prix. He said, “I understand the irritation.”

Max Verstappen’s rear wing flaps did not open on the final lap of qualifying Q3 at the Catalunya circuit, and his pole position was taken by rival Charles Leclerc.

After overnight repairs, Red Bull Racing mechanics made final checks and fixes shortly before the race, but despite their efforts, DRS failed again during the race and Max Verstappen was George Russell. I had to spend valuable time fighting Russell.

Max Verstappen had a half-spin early on and jumped out into the gravel to retreat, unable to capture George Russell on the track and was finally able to clear it by changing his strategy.

With Charles Leclerc retiring due to PU trouble and George Russell lagging behind in strategy, Max Verstappen eventually won the race. Sergio Perez also followed in second place, with Red Bull Racing achieving a 1-2 finish. Advisor Helmut Marko expressed relief after the checkered flag.

“We were very happy because we had great difficulties,” Helmut Marko told the media, including RacingNews365.com.

“DRS often didn’t open, but sometimes it did, otherwise I couldn’t get through Russell and had to switch from the original 2 stoppers to 3 stoppers.”

“There was a problem with the temperature, but when we could run in free air, it proved to be the fastest car in the field.”

Helmut Marko confirmed that the “mechanical issues” were exactly the same as those seen in Saturday’s qualifying session.

“As long as Max was driving the curb, the DRS wouldn’t open,” Helmut Marko said.

“He was frustrated and sometimes pressed the DRS button more often to close it.”

Max Verstappen complained over the air, “Isn’t it possible to make a DRS properly?”, But Helmut Marko added that Verstappen’s frustration is “understandable” given the situation.

“We had to solve the problem ourselves and thought we were successful after the corrections we made after qualifying, but obviously it wasn’t,” Helmut Marko summed up.

Max Verstappen led Charles Leclerc by 6 points in the drivers’ ranking, and Red Bull Racing was 26 points ahead of Scuderia Ferrari in the Constructors’ Battle.
