Red Bull F1 leaders sympathize with Leclerc “Grid penalties are inevitable”[F1-Gate .com]

Helmut Marko, Red Bull F1’s motorsport adviser, seems to even sympathize with Ferrari’s reliability issues that Charles Leclerc has an unavoidable PU replacement penalty.

Ferrari’s apparent early advantage over this year’s Red Bull Racing was a full 180-degree turn, with Red Bull taking an 80-point lead after Baku.

Mattia Binotto has vowed to investigate technical failures in Ferrari-equipped customers’ cars, as well as Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz.

Meanwhile, F1 World Champion Max Verstappen has taken the lead from former championship leader Charles Leclerc, who is at the top of the list other than Red Bull Racing, and is 34 points behind.

“Ferrari currently has two technical failures, and so do we. That’s the tie,” Helmut Marko said.

“But as in George Russell’s case, you can see what it’s possible to do with consistency. He’s not that fast, but he’s more consistent, so the points aren’t too far apart.”

Helmut Marko even sounds a little sympathetic to Ferrari’s new credibility crisis.

“We want a fair fight,” Helmut Marko told Serbus TV.

“Given the future grid penalties, all of this isn’t very good for Ferrari, and we’re actually just starting the season.”

Mattia Binotto agrees.

“During the winter, engine performance has improved significantly. It seems that we are paying for it now.”

Finally, Helmut Marko says that Sergio Perez, who is currently second in the rankings, is a perfectly equal fight, even though he is only 21 points away from his teammate Max Verstappen. Said it didn’t mean.

“We haven’t written anything about it in the contract,” Helmut Marko said of the view that Sergio Perez is really just the number two driver.

“But when you look at the performance, there’s a difference between them. Max showed it on the track today.”
