Red Bull F1 representative “Only age has changed Max Verstappen”[F1-Gate.com]

Christian Horner, Red Bull Racing F1 team principal, says only age has changed for Max Verstappen since he entered F1.

Max Verstappen became the youngest-ever F1 debuter for Toro Rosso in 2015, impressing enough to be promoted to Red Bull Racing after four races in the 2016 season.

Since his fairytale debut winning the opening round of the F1 Spanish Grand Prix against Red Bull Racing, Max Verstappen has added another 27 Grand Prix wins and one world championship title to his trophy cabinet.

Christian Horner told formula.hu that Max Verstappen’s speed was evident from his early days in F1.

“From the first time he drove the car, Max had an incredible natural speed, great control of the car and great confidence. That hasn’t changed at all,” said Horner.

“The only thing that has changed is his experience, and obviously maturity. He joined us as a teenager and is now 24. In fact, that is the only thing that has changed.”

After 13 races in 2022, Max Verstappen leads the drivers’ championship by 80 points, while Red Bull Racing leads the constructors’ standings by 97 points.

“The first half of the year has been really positive, leading both championships with eight wins and two wins in sprint races,” said Christian Horner.

“Of course it means very little. What really matters is where you are at the end of the season.”

“The first half of the year was very encouraging, but now it’s all about what we do in the second half of the season.”

Red Bull Racing’s 2021 title rivals Mercedes completely dominated the Constructors’ title from 2014 to 2021, but this year the Silver Arrows fell back and were relegated to third behind Red Bull and Ferrari. there is

Mercedes has not won a race so far in 2022.

“Mercedes has been a very dominant team over the years, so I think we are all surprised that they haven’t been so close or up the pace,” Christian said. Horner continued.

“But they are working on the issue and it shows how competitive they are.”

“We can see them getting closer to action, and I think there’s a good chance they could pose a threat later in the year at certain circuits.”

Last year’s title battle was between Red Bull and Mercedes, but a struggle at Silver Arrows has left Ferrari to take on Red Bull this year.

Christian Horner says he enjoys battling Ferrari.

“I think Ferrari is an iconic brand. It’s all about what’s happening on the track and it’s very satisfying to race with Ferrari,” said Horner.

“Charles[Leclerc]and Max raced well this year and I hope it continues.”

Horner also spoke about the performance of Max Verstappen’s team-mate Sergio Perez. Perez won the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix but has struggled in recent races, having finished on the podium just once in the past five Grands Prix.

However, Christian Horner defended the driver, insisting Sergio Perez was still hungry for success.

“Czech is doing a great job. He’s had some tricky races but he’s had a great season. Victory in Monaco, pole position in Giadda. He’s had an incredible performance. We are,” said Christian Horner.

“His qualifying pace has taken a big step this year. Pole position in Jeddah was impressive, so he’s still pushing himself hard and is very motivated.”
