Refaelov reacts to Mazzù’s departure: ‘We didn’t have enough stability’

There are two ways to react to an embarrassing situation in a difficult period: to assume or to put the blame on others.

Lior Refaelov chose the first option. The Israeli told Wesley Hoedt to shut up as he urged him to get off the Standard pitch faster. A scene relayed everywhere. The men are not at their first attempt and have almost already come to blows last season. “This kind of thing must not happen. We must have respect for each other. Our behavior is linked to the emotion of the match. We immediately forgot afterwards. We do not bring his problems into the locker room or the next day in training.”

Wesley Hoedt preferred to confront the press. He approached the photographers and launched: “Come Lior, we’ll take a picture to show that everything is fine between us.” He turned around and launched a: “idiots”.

Refaelov wants a fixed starting XI

The Mazzù page is turned. Robin Veldman has already set certain accents in its early days. “He has his own ideas”he says.

The team veteran has recently struggled to find his place in the team. He always fought but was unable to show all his qualities in the Anderlecht system. “I also apologized to Felice when he came to Neerpede on Monday. He’s a good coach and a nice person. I told him I was sorry because I hadn’t managed to do his job. Anderlecht a winning team.”

A mea culpa that he matched with criticism. Refaelov called on all his teammates to take responsibility. Mazzu included. “We didn’t have enough stability in the team. We never knew how to create a stable starting XI. OK, we had to rotate given the matches but we didn’t have enough automatisms.”
