An EPD spokesman said that in order to assist and encourage citizens to actively practice waste reduction and recycling in their daily lives, and in line with the implementation of MSW charging in the future, the EPD is continuing to strengthen waste reduction and recycling support at the district level, including expanding and enhancing community recycling. The network is “green in the district” to facilitate citizens to practice clean recycling.

In 2021, “Recycling and Recycling Stations” and “Recycling Convenience Points” will have a total of about 3.8 million visitors, bringing in over 14,400 tonnes of recyclables. Among them, the best performing “Recycling and Recycling Stations”, “Green in Shatin” and “Recycling Convenience Points” and “Green in Po Lam”, the recycling volume in 2021 will exceed 800 metric tons and 600 metric tons respectively.

In addition, the “Recycling and Recycling Stations” and “Recycling Convenience Points” that will receive the most visitors in 2021 are Green in Eastern District and Green in Quarry Bay, both of which are located in the Eastern District of Hong Kong Island. As for the “Recycling Convenience Point” that issued the most “Green Rewards” points cards last year, Green in Tai Po Market issued more than 6,000 points cards. With the launch of the “Green Rewards” mobile app by the EPD in January this year, citizens can choose to register as members of the “Green Rewards” electronic points scheme through their smartphones, which will make it easier for the public to participate in clean recycling.

The spokesman pointed out that the EPD has also used technology to enhance recycling services and efficiency in the community. It will start testing smart recycling equipment (including smart scales, smart scales, Automatic gift redemption machines and smart recycling bins) in the local application and benefits, and from May this year, smart recycling facilities have been gradually installed in “recycling and recycling stations” and “recycling convenience points” across the line. Meanwhile, the EPA is looking for other suitable sites to further increase the number of smart recycling systems to 80 to 100 sites.
