There is electricity in the air! Presence of cold air at altitude, warming of the surface: all the ingredients are in place for strong storm cells to disrupt the first portion of the weekend. Action is expected to begin in the afternoon and evening on Saturday.
A few areas are particularly susceptible to hearing rumbling thunder. Estrie, Chaudière-Appalaches, Mauricie and Capitale-Nationale are the sectors where the risk is most pronounced. Elsewhere, if some lightning is possible, the stormy potential remains modest.
Note that these storms have the potential to become violent, but the available energy is limited due to the lack of heat. If storm cells show up during the day on Saturday, they will still be scattered and won’t last long.
Possible hail
These storms could generate strong gusts and small hailstones less than two centimeters. The presence of this cold air at altitude also increases the risk of observing hail if violent thunderstorms break out.
