“Road to Atlantis”: Researchers succeed in discovering bizarre rock formations – Archaeology

But what may appear to be a “yellow brick road” to the mythical city is actually an example of volcanic geology.

The scientists made the discovery on the top of the underwater mountain Nootka. The formation has now been identified as a rugged flow of hyaloclastite rock. It is a volcanic rock formed during high-energy eruptions that cause many rock fragments to settle on the sea floor. The unique 90-degree fractures are likely formed by heating and cooling from multiple eruptions.

The researchers have not discovered the legendary city or a new reference to the sunken Atlantis. So the speculation and the search for the mystical place can continue.
