In a coordinated police operation, 13 suspected persons involved in a robbery on a money transporter were arrested on Tuesday. The operation was carried out by the cantonal police of Vaud, together with the criminal police of Lyon and a special unit against organized crime.
The police arrested five people in the canton of Vaud and eight in France, according to the canton police of Vaud. The arrested people are suspected of holding various functions on June 2019 Assault on a delivery truck belonging to a private money transport company to have been involved in Mont-sur-Lausanne.
The first suspect was discovered in 2019
In the summer of 2019, a suspect was arrested in Spain at the request of the Central Public Prosecutor’s Office in Vaud. The Frenchman from the Lyon region was extradited to Switzerland in August and is still in custody. The investigation continues to determine the role of the suspects.
The attackers blocked the money transporter in the industrial zone of Mont-sur-Lausanne with several vehicles. They forced the couriers to leave the vehicle at gunpoint. After that, they set several vehicles on fire and escaped with some of the money.
The attack was not the first of its kind on Vaud soil. A year earlier, a robbery had been committed on a money transporter in Mont-sur-Lausanne. Less than a month ago, the police arrested seven suspects in connection with a robbery on two money transporters in La Sarraz VD in August 2019.
Between 2017 and 2019 there were further attacks following the same pattern in Daillens (December 2019), Chavornay (February 2018) and Nyon (May 2017). The perpetrators’ approach was always the same: the robbers threatened the couriers with firearms, blew up the delivery truck to get the money, and shot the vehicles before they fled to neighboring France.
After the series, the canton of Vaud took new security measures. Money can only be transported in heavy armored vehicles. The amount of money is limited to ten million francs. (SDA / noo)
