Incredible images from a dish in Honduras! Around 20 gangsters disguised as military police storm the building, free their boss – and shoot their way out.
Four police officers died in the brutal attack in El Progreso in the north of the country. Four others were injured, Hondura’s Ministry of Security said.
▶ ︎First you see Alexander Mendoza alias “El Porkys”, leader of the mighty street gang Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13), brought to justice.
Mendoza wears a white undershirt and handcuffs, an official grabs him by the neck and urges him forward. Shortly after, more men come in. They too are uniformed and look like police officers. But suddenly they start to attack. Panic breaks out.
The wrong officials drive civilians away, threatening court officials. Then “El Porkys” reappears. Instead of the handcuffs, he now has an assault rifle.
▶ ︎ “El Porkys” had been in custody since 2015 and had been convicted of money laundering, drug trafficking and bribery by police officers. A trial for involvement in several murders was still ongoing.
The so-called maras – unscrupulous, tightly organized gangs – control entire neighborhoods in Central America, are involved in extortion and drug trafficking, and make the region one of the most dangerous in the world.
Because of extreme violence, among other things, numerous people are fleeing their homeland and trying to immigrate illegally to the United States.
Five suspects arrested
After the liberation of “El Porkys”, the police initiated a large-scale search. The officials said on Friday that five suspects had been arrested and 56 firearms had been confiscated.
Mara boss Mendoza has disappeared further. Numerous forces continued to search for him. President Juan Orlando Hernández awarded a reward of two million lempiras (€ 74,600) for clues leading to his arrest.
