The trial that the First Collegiate Court of the National District knows of the six defendants for the bribes of 92 million dollars that the Brazilian construction company Norberto Odebrecht admitted to having paid in the Dominican Republic, to obtain millionaire contracts for works between 2001 and 2014, entered yesterday in the declaration phase of the accused, an opportunity to defend oneself.
The first to exhaust a shift, around 2:30 in the afternoon, was businessman Ángel Rondón, who said that the general manager of Odebrecht in the Dominican Republic, Marco Vasconcelos Cruz, was taken out of the country because if the authorities interviewed him here “it would have overthrown the past government of Danilo Medina and the political system.”
“Those reports were not by chance that they were made until 2012, it was not by chance that Marco Cruz was taken out of the country in December (2018); You know why they removed Marco Cruz from the country, because if they had interviewed Marco Cruz and they did not let him leave, Marco Cruz would not have overthrown (only) the government of Danilo Medina, he would have overthrown the national political system, because if in the country there was bribery and I told him (attorney Jean Alain Rodríguez), Marcos Cruz knows it ”, he assured.
What Jean Alain proposed against PRM leaders
He argued that ex-attorney Jean Alain Rodríguez asked him to make an agreement, part of which he accused two or three of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), something that he claims to have rejected.
He specified that in his denunciations, Vasconcelos Cruz points to 28 people, but these were not included in the file. Rondón did not identify them. He stated that he knew that the executive of the Brazilian company was making a leniency agreement in Brazil.
He revealed that when he was imprisoned in the Najayo prison, in San Cristóbal, serving preventive detention, he sat down the defendant Andrés Bautista and Temístocles Montás, the latter excluded from the case, to warn them about the consequences of the submissions that the authorities on duty tend to do. outgoing officials.
“I told them that if they continue with the practice that each government that enters is going to go out and mess up the one that leaves, this is going to screw up,” he said, during his intervention in the trial.
He pointed out that in the 16 projects in charge of Odebrecht, from 2002 to 2014, he received a 2 percent fee, but that from the contract for the construction of the Punta Catalina hydroelectric plant it was reduced to 1 percent.
He said that due to the bribes received by him, the other defendants have not entered an illegal penny in their coffers
He indicated that the public ministry presented a measure of coercion with the information he provided when he was questioned, but he deplored that they added that it was for bribes to officials and legislators, which he claims not to have said.
Rondón: The MP
“They contributed little”
Rondón, the main defendant in the bribery case, began his speech by stating that he was convinced that the representatives of the Public Prosecutor’s Office present yesterday in the room, the specialized prosecutor for Administrative Corruption, Wilson Camacho, and the prosecutor Milcíades Guzmán, did not they were the architects of the accusation against those implicated in the Odebrecht file.
“After I have seen them litigating, talking and defending themselves, I know that they had no participation in the preparation of this case; they have a big problem there, defending the indefensible, because after I’ve seen them, they contributed little, “he said, warning that he was doing it for the benefit of those representatives of the public ministry.
Charges against the accused
Rondón Rijo is attributed by the Public Ministry with having received almost 1,000 million pesos and more than 2 million dollars for alleged criminal actions to the detriment of the State, through bribes for 92 million dollars that the Odebrecht company admitted to having paid.
