Roscosmos announces that it has modified the direction of the Aist-2D satellite in space

The “Ross Cosmos” Foundation announced that it has modified the orientation of the Aist-2D satellite in space to monitor the phenomenon of the total lunar eclipse that occurred last Monday.

And the foundation said in a post on its page on “Telegram” yesterday, “On Monday morning, a total eclipse of the moon occurred, but it could not be seen from Russian lands, and to monitor this phenomenon, we specially modified the direction of the Aist-2D satellite in space and took pictures of it.”

The Foundation indicated that the aforementioned eclipse lasted for about an hour and a half, and residents of North and South America, Europe, Africa and residents of some parts of Asia were able to see it.

Ros Cosmos explained that the cameras of the Aist-2D satellite are usually directed towards the Earth, but their destination is sometimes modified to monitor some celestial bodies or astronomical phenomena. In May 2021, for example, its cameras were able to monitor the phenomenon of the giant moon and the phenomenon of the eclipse of the giant moon as well. This satellite was able to monitor the deviation of the second stage of the Chinese Long March 5B rocket from its course in space.
