“It is a pity that our comrades showed courage and fearlessness while carrying out the combat mission of ‘special military operations’,” Russian army spokesman Igor Konashenkov said in a statement on state television. There were unfortunately casualties among them.”
This is the first time Russia has mentioned the casualties of officers and soldiers in Ukraine since Russian President Vladimir Putin launched the invasion early on the morning of the 24th.
Konashenkov also said that the Russian military would return the “surrendered” Ukrainian prisoners of war to their families.
